As a born procrastinator – many years of practice have also honed my skills – I felt obliged to mount a defense in my latest book. Although it offers plenty of good advice on how to overcome procrastination I also want to stand up and be counted for when it’s a good idea.
For instance: traumatic emotional events such as divorce, death, or redundancy often push us into panic mode and we take drastic action. We move house, city or even country to avoid what is happening to us when it is often more useful to take stock and slow down. Have a period of contemplation about what action to take because in these instances procrastination makes sense. Rather than jumping off into the unknown, a time when you can’t make up your mind can protect you from what could be a disastrous decision.
Let’s hear it for procrastination – it can be a good thing, in moderation!
